This past week, I had the incredible honor of sitting down with the dynamic Gugulethu Mfuphi on Kaya FM’s Kaya Biz. The discussion was a platform to unpack ideas and innovations that drive impactful change in our communities, with a particular focus on aquaponics, community-based enterprises, and my book, Nomayini: The Mentality You Need Before Starting a Business.

Aquaponics in the Township

During the interview, I shared how Z2B Aquaponics Farm is breaking boundaries by introducing sustainable food production methods to township communities. Aquaponics integrates fish farming and vegetable cultivation into a single, eco-friendly system that maximizes yields while using minimal space. This method not only addresses food security but also demonstrates how innovative farming can thrive in urban settings with limited resources.

The goal has always been to inspire a new generation of urban farmers who see potential where others see limitations. By empowering community members with the knowledge and skills to run these systems, we are building a model that fosters economic growth while promoting environmental sustainability.

Community-Based Enterprises

I also discussed the importance of community-based enterprises in fostering economic inclusion. Through Z2B Eyethu Meat Wholesalers, we’ve shown how township businesses can provide practical solutions to local challenges, creating jobs and opportunities within our neighborhoods. Collaborative business models—such as stokvels—are central to our operations, demonstrating the power of collective effort in funding and sustaining small businesses.

The Power of Mindset: Nomayini

No conversation about entrepreneurship would be complete without delving into the lessons from my book, Nomayini: The Mentality You Need Before Starting a Business. The book serves as a blueprint for aspiring entrepreneurs, offering actionable advice on how to build a business from the ground up.

I spoke about how the book addresses critical topics like developing the right mindset, overcoming challenges, and leveraging community support to grow a business. Whether you’re starting out or looking to improve an existing business, Nomayini is a practical guide to navigating the entrepreneurial journey with resilience and focus.

Building Toward the Future

The interview was a powerful opportunity to share my vision for township economies and how they can thrive through innovation, collaboration, and education. Kaya FM has always been a champion of conversations that matter, and I’m grateful to have been part of the dialogue on Kaya Biz.

To those who tuned in, thank you for your continued support! Let’s keep working together to unlock the incredible potential in our communities.
