You finally realised that the person was actually never going to be what you wanted them to be. You realised that you enabled hurt onto yourself and were the source of hurt to others. You realised that you played a major role in having a terrible 2022. Whatever it is that happened, you don’t have to be overwhelmed by guilt so much you can’t move on. Forgiving oneself can be a difficult and emotional process, but it is an important step towards healing and moving forward. Here are some steps that may be helpful in forgiving yourself:
- Acknowledge and accept your feelings: It’s okay to feel guilty, ashamed, or upset about what happened. Allow yourself to feel these emotions and acknowledge that they are a natural part of the process. You can’t drink, smoke or eat them away. You have to face them with a sober mind.

This doesn’t mean beating yourself up or dwelling on the past, but rather acknowledging the harm you caused and working to make amends if possible.
